TAIPEI — Taiwan's pro-China ruling Kuomintang (KMT Party suffered stronger-than-expected defeats in municipal elections on Saturday, dealing a stiff blow to a president who has staked his reputation on closer ties with Beijing, and leading the premier to resign.
