The recent release of Amnesty International (AI)âs annual report has provided critical information about the suppression of citizensâ rights under military rule. AI Thailand chairman Chamnan Chanruang last Monday took another step, meeting with government officials to discuss human rights issues addressed in the report, such as freedom of expression and the right of civilians to be exempted from military trials, in a bid to create more understanding between the two sides. The Sunday Nationâs Wasamon Audjarint talked to Chamnan about the organisationâs role in monitoring the human rights situation in the Kingdom, especially during recent years as the junta rose to power.
